HOW TO CHOOSE A ROOFER
Choosing A Roofer Here in the Toronto Area?
Choosing a roofer ends up with the customer being either satisfied or dissatisfied. If you do your homework and take the time to make the proper decisions, you will be one of the satisfied owners and not one of the victims. So, how do we as homeowners prevent being a victim of a poor contracting experience. Architectural, Manufacturer, Trade Association, and Consumer Protection Groups suggest that you spend the time up front interviewing and asking your contractor the right questions.
How do you determine what you need, how to select the proper specifications, how to qualify your contractor, and how to determine what is a fair price. By asking the right questions should help you determine reliability, reputation, and experience of the contractor, as well as, his dedication to delivering a project to your satisfaction.
Evaluation the 4P’s of a Construction Investment
P1. The Problems
The No 1 “Problem is Contractor Qualification & Selection”. This is a significant point. If you choose the right contractor, you really do not have to worry about asking all the other questions; because if you choose the right contractor they already have the right answers to your problems; they already use the right products & specifications; they already use the right people to install the work; and they have the right price. So, how do you know if you have the right contractor?
P2 The Products
Satisfaction and trouble free service are the result of putting together the proper specifications with the proper materials and application by quality craftsmanship. The problem is that the average owner does not have a method of evaluating the proper specifications, materials and craftsmanship until it is too late..
P3 The People
“Never Buy a product…Buy a Contractor” the significance of that statement is that good materials in the hands of a butcher will result in a butcher job. It really doesn’t matter who is the manufacturer, the quality of the product, or the length of their warranty. If the product is not installed skilled craftsmen it will never perform as intended or as you anticipated. It is not uncommon for an owner to pay twice for a project because they failed to carefully qualify the contractor and allowed themselves to get ripped off.
P4 The Price
“Will the decision you make today turn out to be an Expense?” You either do the work right according to established specifications and craftsmanship, and the work is an investment because it last up to expectation, or you do it wrong and you are “burning money”
The time required to do your homework is minuscule compared to:
1.The problems you can have if you select the wrong contractor.
2.The time and money it takes to rectify a bad situation.
